I’m Shawn Burton, founder of Burton Solutions.
Throughout my career, I have built, led, assessed, and improved systems across manufacturing, laboratory, regulated, and global business environments. My experience spans quality management systems, internal and external audits, corrective action, supplier quality, operational excellence, data analytics, continuous improvement, and emerging AI-enabled workflows.
I have worked with mature global systems and growing organizations still building their foundations. I have led teams through complex compliance challenges, strengthened processes under pressure, developed practical tools from the ground up, and seen firsthand what happens when systems become disconnected from the people expected to use them.
Those experiences shaped how I work today.

THE BURTON FILTER
The Burton Filter is a practical way to prevent small businesses and start-ups from building systems that are more complicated than their operations require. Every process, procedure, or tool should first pass four tests: Is it useful, risk-based, usable, and scalable? These questions keep the focus on solving real problems, directing resources toward the areas that matter most, and creating systems that people can understand and consistently follow.
Complexity does not automatically create stronger compliance. In fact, unnecessary steps, excessive documentation, and overly rigid controls can make a system harder to maintain—especially for lean teams with limited time and resources.
